According to the Conn-Selmer website:
Conn-Selmer Offers Gonzalez Reeds
Conn-Selmer, Inc. is proud to be the exclusive distributor of Gonzalez Reeds for the United States and Canada.

Conn-Selmer has been the US distributor for Gonzalez reeds since they bought the main distribution rights from Davie Cane about 2 years ago.
During the past 2 years, Davie Cane as well as others dealers, was selling Gonzalez reeds...GBK

(Disclaimer - I sell Gonzalez reeds)
Conn-Selmer is the U.S. distributor of Gonzalez reeds to their dealers and not directly to the public. There are many dealers - the prices vary from dealer to dealer so check out several. Conn-Selmer has advised me that the Regular Cut # 3.5 are backordered for 10 weeks but other dealers may have some in stock if this is your current flavor.

This should probably be a new thread, but I noticed on the Weiner Music website that there's a shortage of Vandoren V12 3.5 reeds. Anyone have trouble finding them?

I posted two weeks ago asking about a possible shortage of VD Trad 3.5 reeds. Our local music store has been out for almost a month and they have always been overstocked on these reeds. They did have three boxes of V12 3.5 a couple of days ago and have plenty of lesser and a few harder strengths. But the VanDoren 3.5 reeds have been in short supply recently, here in Madison, WI. Ricos, LaVoz, Michelle Laurie.....no problem. I think there are even some Marcas on the shelf--but a definate shortage of Vandys.

I did not know that Davie had gotten out of the distribution of the Gonzalez reeds that long ago!

Here in Tokyo there was, and maybe still is, a V12 No. 3.5 shortage in the end of last year. Lucky me- I don't use them.

Rod Rubber & Iceland Clarinet:
I've bought the special package V12s - good price, even worse packaging waste.
How are they different from the regular package? I have noticed that I find fewer good reeds - but thought that was just me.

I'm sure this has been answered here in the past, but since I can't find the answer...Does anybody know if the Mozart reeds that only DavieCane sold are totally gone now? Those reeds fit my mouthpiece better than anything since the old Olivieri untempered. I only managed to buy a few boxes of Mozarts before they disappeared...I guess the secret is to horde if something works.

Yes, the Mozart reeds are history! I got a message several months ago directly from the company informing me that they have been discontinued. Apparently, they are planning to replace them with something similar in the future. They didn't give any indication how long we will have to wait though! Anyone know any secrets???

Mozart reeds are going to go into history as yet another reed brand/style which has been discontinued.
There were additional hand finishing steps involved in the making of the reeds and Gonzalez, which is seriously behind on supply orders of all reeds, probably is consolidating (for now) their line of reeds.
Just speculation, but probably is the case.
The Mozart reeds were supposed to be replaced with something else, but that was at least 6 months ago and no word yet on anything new.
If you have Mozart reeds and like them (I thought they were excellent) you might want to try to find reeds with similar dimensions...GBK

Larryb,
Enticed by the discount price, i bought 8 special packaging V12 boxes strength 4.5. I noticed a distinct lack of vibrance, so i measured the reeds, and there were indeed slight differences. Also the width of the reed is thinner. I don't know exactly what it is, but they don't play the same as the regular box reeds in current production.

I recall people talking about the scarcity of the Mozart reeds. It seems that Muncy has them, or at least are advertising them on their site:

Yes davie cane is out of buisness. Phil Shapiro, who used to play where I live down here in miami, has for soem reason moved Las Vegas I hear. One of my oboe teachers worked very closley with Phil for a while. He dsitributed the oboe cane. I dont think they have done dealings for a while.
