It is 10:45PM on Monday night and I have just returned from another outstanding concert sponsored by The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society featuring Mr. Ricardo Morales. It was truly inspiring as well as invigorating. Included in the program was Clarinet Sonata in F Minor, Op. 120, No. 1 (1894). It was evident that Mr. Morales thoroughly enjoyed playing this particular piece. The pianist was Miss Natalie Zhu who has great balance when it comes to power and grace. Mr. Efe Baltacigil on cello was the guest artist and was superb. Splendido!

I am so happy for you, that you can go to an awesome event like that; in contrast I live in a remote area LOL...
Pardon my absolute ignorance, but who wrote the Clarinet Sonata in F Minor, Op. 120, No. 1 (1894)???

Last year I attended the Mozart Clarinet Concerto performed by The Philadelphia Orchestra featuring Mr. Morales. When the concert was finished on the way out I saw a lady who looked very upset. I asked her what the problem was and she replied that she was going home to throw her clarinet away after hearing Mr. Morales she was giving up. I always have quite the opposite reaction after his performances. I am inspired. The first week in March will be another chamber music concert featuring Mr. Morales and I will be in attendance and am looking forward to it.

Don't understand why she was put off by the performance... She probably thought, "I'll never be able to play like that, so might as well give up right now anyway."
First, chances are she's beginner. Not a very determined one. With the kind of attitude she has, she will probably never achieve anything significant.
Second, 99.9% of the people that have learned/learning to play clarinet will never be a better player than Mr. Morales. She needs to realize that even IF she will never be as good as Mr. Morales, it's no reason to give up.
If a pro won't inspire her, what will? A beginner? I think not
Conclusion: Lack of Determination.

I don't understand why this criticism has been projected onto a girl who did not even post.
You don't know anything about her, or her dreams and aspirations. Yet you were able to write:
"With the kind of attitude she has, she will probably never achieve anything significant."
Who are you to say? And what right to you have to attack someone who isn't there to defend themselves?
I'm sorry, that just touched a nerve.
For the record:
I have had lots of friends say to me that they are giving up after hearing an amazing concert. But they don't mean it - it is a reflection of the quality of the performance.

I must say I had a similar reaction after hearing Morales' recent recording of Bartok's Contrasts.
But of course I didn't throw the clarinet away, I didn't stop practicing. I let the feeling pass and went on with it. But boy, at the moment I was listening there was this simultaneous delight that the instrument can be played so beautifully with the utter despair of knowing I will never attain that level of perfection. It's a powerful feeling to be sure.
