Author: sherman

Does anyone have information concerning buying and returning at WWBW and 123? I bought several returnable items, and wonder if everying there is still operating as before?

The last I heard, The Guitar Center had purchased WWBW/Music 123 and it is still operating pretty much business as usual.

I haven't bought or returned since Guitar Center purchased WWBW, but did have a semi unpleasant experience right after the announcement about the bankruptsy. I had to call WWBW about 4 times to get them to credit the return to my account. However, Scott Kurtzweil from WWBW was extremely nice and finally got the return credited on WWBW's end. He was also very apologetic for the "mistake" on the bean counter's part. Scott has posted here on the bboard and is a really nice person. But, the credit card company (the one that backs the WWBW account) gave me all kinds of trouble and overcharged me on late fees because WWBW didn't credit it back for over 6 weeks after I had returned the instrument. I'm still hassling with the credit card company and my husband has decided we'll probably have to have our attorney straighten things out.

So, I would say give Scott a call and go through him on whatever you're wanting and maybe you won't have a nightmare. Things should be running smoother now that Guitar Center has taken over. I've used Guitar Center for many things over the last decade or so and found their 30 day policy to be flawless. The "limbo" period has passed and things have hopefully settled down. I don't recommend their credit card situation, however.

They are switching to a different bank to do their credit cards. I was told that it will be a couple of weeks before they know how the new company will handle the accounts. The old company is probably giving WWBW and thier customers all kinds of grief because of the loss of the credit card business. Good luck.

I've was ordering before the transition actually took place. From what I was told by WWBW, Selmer lowered their bid to an absurd amount and then backed out.

I experienced no difficulties in ordering or shipping. The returned mp's....I'll have to see when they get credited back. I'll call my cc company and see what came through for teh returns adn the purchase.

One aspect that did change. From before the actual change in ownership to after it, they are now adament about their pricing.

I purchased some urgently needed percussion equipment just the other day, and (according to the tracking information) it is trucking its way Houston-ward as this is being written.

Now, all I need is a sax player who can handle the timbales part on In These Shoes?, and I'll be set. Not your usual double, mind you, but you have to make do with what you have.

I placed an order on Jan 26th, and my order was processed right away just like usual, and I received it quickly. I also placed another order on Feb. 3rd and that order is due to be delivered tomorrow.

I have not tried to return anything recently so I'm no help there.

I ordered some simple items, and they came quickly.
I appreciated the "your order has been sent and here is the tracking number" notification.

I thought Guitar Center did not buy them, but rather Musician's Friend.

So who owns them now???

Musician's Friend did indeed buy them. Musician's Fried is a wholly owned subsidiary of Guitar Center.

I have ordered 2 or 3 times since the big announcement, and the service has been just like it always was - I get the item in 2-3 days, no problems at all. I have only ordered things that are in stock, however, so I can't speak about special order items.

My complaint wasn't in the quickness of the shipping of the instrument, rather in the snail's pace to credit my account on the return. If I had used my regular credit card it would have been totally a different story. The only problem came in the fact that I was told 3 times by WWBW staff that the item had been credited back to me and I got 2 bills from the credit card company for the full amount PLUS a late fee when I had been told my account should have been $0.00. It wasn't until Scott personally called the billing dept. that the amount got credited back.

Anyway, if I had kept the instrument it would probably have worked out better in the long run even if I ended up selling it--I'd have saved about 130.00 in shipping and credit card fees. We won't even think about the attorney's fees if I end up having to go that route.

I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again. I just would not use their credit card and would go with my old faithful.

My situation with the credit card has been resolved without the intervention of my attorney. Scott went to bat for me on WWBW's end after my return of the merchandise and is a class act gentleman. I wrote a detailed letter to the credit card company and included my records from WWBW and they (the credit card co) finally cleared up the account. Since I had bad mouthed the credit card company I wanted to be fair and let you know the outcome. I'm still not happy with them because they were so difficult to deal with, but will note that for the future. It was an expensive play-test of the Leblanc Cadenza.
