Please help me clear up some controversy regarding my Evette-Schaeffer horn. It was identified by Francois over at Buffet as an E-13 from the serial number K10178 as made in 1962 (same year as myself). The "How old is my listing" makes no reference to the K prefix.
This horn has no undercutting and plays a dark tone, even when pressed hard. Any thoughts?

It's labelled an Evette-Schaeffer; therefore the Buffet sequence numbers don't apply.

My Buffet Crampon E13, bought in 1999, also has the prefix K before the number, although my number is 6 digits as far as I can remember. It is a Buffet, not an Evette-Schaeffer.

If I remember right, the K on a "true" Buffet signifies A=442 or A=444 "European" tuning. If the horn says anything but Buffet on it all bets are off in the serial number list.

I think an "F" signifies A=442. At least on other models that I've had. I don't know about the "K".

In have seen (two (2) different) Buffet S-1's. They both had an "F" marking. The S-1 was a European model.
I own two (2) Buffet Evette-Schaefer Clarinets which both have a serial number beginning with a "K". They both tune to A-440.
This is the 2nd time that I have heard somebody refer to an Evette-Schaefer as an "E-13".
Can anybody confirm this as being correct ? The E/S was made in West Germany. It is my understanding that the E-13 is an R-13, graded downward due to some small flaw or mlemish/cosmetic reason; further, that E-13's are/were made in France @ the same factory which produces the R-13. mw
