 almond oil is good!

This may not be scientific:But almond oil is good.
I used Yamaha bore oil two times and found no effect or difference to the tone, so one week ago I bought a small bottle of almond oil made by English oil manufacturer.Just after oiling the bore it was of course difficult to articulate(some response delay occured). But after leaving the clarinet two whole days,I played Mozart concerto 3rd movement.I could crisply(is this right wording?I mean 'clear and detached').Believe it or not, wonderfully.I would like to recommend this to every one.FYI:I bought my Selmer 10SII* last 15th October, and tried Yamaha
bore oil three months after that. There are many natural oil selections.I wondered what will happen if I oil a EX-virgin olive oil(very expensive 9 times higher than almond oil) since Olivieli reed is dipped in Olive oil.

Yes crisply is exactly the right word.

Olive oil, almond oil and other vegetable oils have two serious drawbacks: They can attract insects, and they can slowly become rancid, leading eventually to a foul smell in the clarinet and the case.

Hmm, i don't think your clarinet should be oiled yet if it is so new. The factories do soak them so the wood won't need to be oiled. I agree with Lelia too. Insects won't like the taste of Yamaha oil.

You can prevent the almond oil from becoming rancid by the addition of liquid vitamin E. If you buy vitamin E capsules from your health food store piece one end of capsule and squeeze the contents into your small (100ml ?) bootle of almond oil it will prevent the oil oxidising and becoming rancid. In any case dryning your instrument after each playing would leave such a minute amount of oil that I doubt you, or the insects, would ever detect the smell!

Carry on oiling, but sparingly, and not too often.

Thank you Roger:
I found two opinions in this BBS:1)Do not use mineral oil(Yamaha oil maybe) but use vegetable oils(every proffessional manufacturing people seem to tell this).2)But,those vegetable oils become rancid.3)There are two opinions about oiling.Revitlization or not.(I experienced how it occurs-not scientifically).

So,your Vitamin E addition was the solution! I will make oiling every 6 months.
