Hi, is anyone familiar with German made Schriebner clarinets? Are they beginner, or intermediate, clarinets? Any information on the price range of one that is about 20 years old (and would need at least one pad) would also be helpful, thanks, Cindy.

Schreiber still make clarinets - the Buffet B10, B12, E10 and E11 clarinets are all Schreibers.

If your clarinet is plastic bodied, then it's the same as a B12.

If it has wooden joints but with a plastic barrel and bell, it's the same as an E10.

If it's all wood, then it's an E11.

I purchased a Conn Director today. It's approximately 50 or so years old, and was repadded, but I think it needs new corks. It plays well. Is this a student clarinet? If so, I think the tone is better than my Bundy (will this start a strain of jokes?) This is a one owner clarinet, so I was lucky to find it.

I wasn't looking to buy two clarinets, but I may if this German wooden one is an intermediate.

Question: Are all Schreiber Clarinets Buffets, or did they make other clarinets also? Thanks, Cindy.

The 'Evette' clarinets were also by Schreiber (but became the B12 and E11 in the mid '80s). They made clarinets for Hans Kreul and I think some Richard Keilwerth clarinets as well

Schreiber also make the student model Buffet oboes as well as their own oboes and cors, German system clarinets, bassoons, and they make bassoons for Mollenhauer.

The production of Buffet flutes moved from north London to the Schreiber factory.

I believe Schriebner, at least at one time, manufactured their own line of clarinets. I own a plastic model with an upper joint metal insert that is only stamped Schriebner. It's a very good clarinet.

Those metal inserts must have been quite popular at some time. Pruefer had one too, Martin as well, maybe more.

Schreiber has a full range of German and Austrian clarinets. THe student clarinets are rather popular here in Germany. Look here:

The entire Conn "Director" line is of student quality, as is the Selmer USA
"Bundy", regardless of what instrument one is talking about.

Your instrument can't be older than 1955 or so, as this is when Conn changed their student to intermediate line of instruments from the "Pan American" to the "Director" name and designs.
