Does anyone know where I can buy a book with clarinet sheet music a 13 year old girl might recognize and enjoy playing? Not necessarily the current pop stars like 'N Sync and Brittney Spears, but music that she knows the words and melody to. Some good examples would be Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head, Happy Birthday, Beatles, Beach Boys, or even children's classics like Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc. I can only find books with classical music, etc. She needs some FUN stuff to keep her playing through the summer. Thanks.

How about music from the Disney movies or the musicals? Some of it is very well arranged for clarinet and piano, such as Memory and Jellicle songs for Jellicle Cats from "Cats", The seaweed is always greener in somebody else's lake, from "The little Mermaid", "The Pink Panther". Music from the Disney movies (or any movie they're familiar with) and musicals is often a hit with younger teenagers."Tears in Heaven" arr. for clarinet and piano sounds really good.

For the good old songs, check out garage sales and used book stores for folio-sized booklets such as "Golden Book of Favorite Songs", 100 Best Songs, Pat's Pick, Tunes Dad Whistled etc. The reference section of our medium-sized library has a goodly no. of "American" etc song books which might interest you. Luck, Don

check out any of the Disney music. They are fun and all of the kids know the tunes.
You many have to buy piano music and play the vocal line. it's in a differant key but if she is playing by herself that is ok.

These are good ideas; my son especially liked to play out of a Star Wars movie music book that was arranged for clarinet. Also encourage her to play along with any recorded music that she likes, it can be a really good breathing exercise, and presents some challenges that can help learning to play in tune with the ensemble as well as learning to play indifferent keys that are uncommon in our usual school music.

How about broadway music? I have a wonderful book I got when I was about that age full of show tunes. I also recommend getting the solo clarinet books for Phantom, that has some fun stuff. Then again, I'm a broadway nut, so I what I might like she might hate. But hey, it's worth a shot!

Specially-arranged scores for clarinet can be quite limited and even pricey. One suggestion I have is to get those compilations of popular songs, eg'Best-loved favourites, 'Best Tunes' etc; be it for voice and piano or whatever instrument. They can be easily arranged for a Bb clarinet and piano. You can even use your imagination and compositional creativity to do something to it!

Thank you all so very much. I do not play an instrument so you have given me some very good tips. Looks like I'll be hitting Half-Price Books for starters! Again, thank you. Jane

Good band instrument stores will have tons of stuff. I've gotten Disney tunes (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and many others), movie tunes (Titanic), classic Rock and Roll, and many others.
