trios for clarinet flute and piano
Author: tetiana

I have recently started playing some chamber music with a pianist and flutist. Can anyone recommend some music for us to play (I have both a Bb and A clarinet), preferably scored originally for this formation? All of us can hold our own, skill-level wise (We recently played a Kummer concerto, I think originally scored for 2 violins).

There is the Saint-Seans, it's called the Tarrentella i think. It's for the that combination. There isn't a vast amount of repertoire for this instrumentation so you should think about some arrangements.

Grundman............Waltz and Interlude......6-7 mins easy and delightful.
Kennaway...........Downstream....(actually written for ob,cl,pa) A really nice pastoral piece......you can hear the stream burbling over pebbles, speeding up, etc....easy and delightful .....a nice encore piece.

There is some sort of Fantasia on themes of Carmen that is quite charming. I think it's by Michael Webster.

Querying my library database gives these:

Danzi, Franz: Sinfonia Concertante - Op. 41
Ibert, Jacques: Aria
Jaffe, Gerald: Wedding Music
Quensel, Alfred: <title?> - Op. 12
Saint-Saens, Camille: Tarantelle - Op. 6

My wife is a flutist - we have lots more stuff without piano than with...

Peter: Yeah but the Danzi comes with a piano reduction.

Tetiana: You are welcome. Please let know if you need a list without piano.

I have played a number of trios which I purchased from BRS Music. Get on their sight and look for woodwind ensembles, then mixed woodwinds. www.brsmusic.net.

There's the "Andante & Variations" by Pietro Bottesini. This is available from Musica Rara either with string quartet or with piano accompaniment.

There is a very nice arrangement of the "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" by Debussy. I does not compare with the orchestral version... but audiences seem to like it.

Happy New Year
