I am seriously thinking of buying a leblanc cadenza..But I have more questions
Author: Asain

I called the two local music stores this morning, but they didn't seem to have any in stock or even heard of the instrument before. This rules out me play-testing it before purchase. I really want to know if this clarinet is comparable to the Buffet R13. I've tested the R13 many times, and I love it. However, there was barely a difference in tone between it and my E11.

So.

1) Should I get this instead of the R13?
2) Is the list price on WWBW negotiable?

1. Order it off WWBW, if you don't like it send it back for full refund minus SH.
2. No the list price is not negotiable unless you trade something in if I'm correct.

If you need convincing to buy a leblanc, read on....

I couldn't afford to buy a new Buffet Festival to match my Bb clarinet, but needed an A. I came accross a used Leblanc concerto and when I tried it I was blown away! I showed it to my teacher and when he tried it he was amazed as well. It is an excellent horn. Every note is perfectly in tune and the tone is incredibly smooth and mellow. As a side note, I also knew the sales person and got a great deal... $1000 CAN.

In fact, it is so good that when I do upgrade my clarinets years from now I will probably consider a pair of Leblancs rather than Buffet.

Good luck with your purchase, and make sure wherever you buy it from that they have a trial period so you can determine if the horn is right for you. If you can, try several horns as well.

Remember, with most online suppliers you can try after you buy for 14 days... and if it does not suffice you can return it, minus the shipping costs.

many years ago in Oklahoma i tried a Leblanc Concerto A that a friend had bought 2nd hand and had overhauled- it was the sweetest tone ever, a totally beautiful instrument that just glowed, very even response and excellent intonation. And i'm a Buffet fan- it just goes to show that every instrument should be judged independantly, regardless of brand name.

The concerto is a bit out of my budget though.

Read my update on the Cadenza. I just returned the one I was testing to wwbw because I just couldn't afford to keep it. I would love to see it go to a bboard member. It is a wonderful instrument. 1,795.00 US dollars plus shipping.

I'm pretty sure she's asking about the Leblanc Cadenza in Bb,
not the A Concerto model.

"1,795.00"

How did you get it for under the list price? I would love to save $50.

Asain, when you call in an order to wwbw via their 800 number (1-800-348-5003), ask for their best price on that and they will usually give you a bigger discount for calling. You can tell them you know someone who got it for 1,795.00 and can they do that for you and I'm pretty sure they will. Doesn't hurt to ask. Yes, the savings pretty much covered the shipping. I had them to overnight it to me to cut down on risk to the instrument during cold weather and also less handling.

Don't ever be the first to mention a number when dickering for a better price! Let the other guy give his price and then ask for a lower one, at $XXXX.XX

I just heard of someone who got the Cadenza from wwbw for 1,600.00. Maybe they're willing to deal more now. Who knows? Different tactics for different situations.

The $1849 price is a Minimum Advertsied Price (MAP). This simply means that dealers are Not ALLOWED to Advertise a lower price.

Dealers are free to set pricing as they see fit.

As far as the Cadenza goes, wow. Absolutely outstanding clarinet in its price range (even at its MAP price).

It fits a price range that really needed a good clarinet. Especially considering that the R13 has jumped in price. Buffet uses an MSP (Minimum SELLING Price) on the R13. This means that no dealer is allowed to Sell below that price.

I agree that the Cadenza fills a much needed hole in the market place. I have no doubt that it will be a best seller if Leblanc keeps producing a high quality product. And, as a Leblanc owner for 46 years (although I've also played Buffets) I can hope they will continue for a long time with the Backun/Leblanc partnership.

If you have close to 2,000.00 but don't have the extra 500.00 or so to get a discounted R-13, go for the Leblanc Cadenza.
