I'll be honest: I'm in the middle of a crisis! I have to come up with several clarinet pieces for a solo and ensemble competition and I have no material and absolutely no idea where to start! with that said, feel free to post your favorite clarinet duets (w/clarinet) and solos of all time! Yes, I admit it, I am begging!

I don't know if they are still available, but Rubank had a wonderful series of duets for 2 clarinets, as well as flute/clarinet. they generally came in an easy version and a hard version, with the hard version having some really nice Mozart stuff.

For S&E competitions (so long ago!!!) I would generally favor Weber's Concertino, as it has a lot of flash but also enough pretty parts to keep from sounding too machine-like

You don't mention what standard applies, but Gordon Lewin's duets "Views of the Blues" is a little set of beautifully written swing duets, which will knock the dust off the panel's/audience's eyelids. Moderately easy, but you need a swing brain and really good "togetherness" for a good performance.

For a slow "heartstring" solo with piano (handfuls of fabulous lush chords) try the slow movement of the Horovitz Son.

I am among those who find nothing to adore in the Rubank duets --except for the last one in the advanced book, which is a straight copy of one of the arrangement done by Gustave Langenus.

I do recommend picking up Langenus' method book III. It has wonderful duets and a trio.

I personally love the rubank book. It's fun. Or the Weber's Grand Duo (if you got a good pianist). As for solos, just do a search here. WAY too many to list! But of the "duets" that I can think of (which aren't that many to begin with), I would say Weber's Grand Duo is a beautiful duet. And of solos, I haven't yet tried my hands at it (been dying too, but just haven't gotten myself a copy yet), Debussy Premiere Rhapsody would rank up there.

Crusell composed three clarinet duets that are three movements each. They are very nice and not terribly difficult to put together.

If I remember correctly the last duet in Rubank 2 is based on a duet for clarinet and bassoon so if you have a handy basoonist ( and don't we all wish we do) I would recommend it. I like it for two clarinets but have an old redord of it with basoon and the contrast is nice. I also enjoy the Mozrt in Rubank 2 but for some reason can't get int the Bach for clarinet.

If you want a good and moderately difficult duet try out the Jeanjean etude no. 18 in the 18 etudes modernes. It's a beautifully well written piece. Not too long though. Maybe 5 minutes. But it's really quite nice.
