Why are Kaspar mouthpieces such a big sucess. i believe that I am going to buy one. I found a new one for $200. Is this a good deal?

You probably have not found a new one. You might have found a Kaspar copy or an used one. If indeed you have found a new "old stock" Kaspar for $200 buy it. They usually sell on eBay from $400 up depending on the facing and condition.

<br>If truly it is a Kaspar (either Ann Arbor or Cicero) $200 would be a good deal. However, there are no "new" Kaspars - it's either an old one, or a new Kaspar copy.

<br>Kaspars are just like other mouthpieces in the sense that they're all a bit different; my teacher has several, and only one of them works with my embouchure.

The late Frank Kaspar had a couple of students and they are continuing the tradition. True, there is no such thing as a "new" Kaspar mp, for obvious reasons. However, his students make very nice mps that perform well. Look around and shop around for these "second generation" Kaspar inspired mps.
Also, remember the phrase caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). Scams abound out in the music industry. Be very careful when it sounds like a great deal. It may be less of a bargain than you think.

I have the information to buy an old kaspar mouthpiece for $200, an old Chadville mouthpiece for $175, and a hardwood mouthpiece for $200. If you want to know where these "great deals" are e-mail me, because I believe Mark would disapprove of me if I posted it on the BBoard

It sounds like you're lookint at Greg Smith's website. His are new mouthpieces made by him from Zinner blanks. Not original Kaspars and Chedevilles. His blanks and mouthpieces are *similar* to the old Kaspar and Chedeville blanks, but Zinner's (or anyone's, today) rubber isn't of the same quality as the old rubber of the 60's and before. Greg still makes fine mouthpieces, but they're not Kaspars and Chedevilles.

The desired Kaspars were made in Chicago (Cicero also) and Ann Arbor. I recently sold an unused old one of mine for $600.00. My old used one is not for sale, well...maybe a Million would get it--any takers????????? Good luck--they are not all the same, or necessarily good.

...and so are the Borbeck mps. Borbeck's main selling point is that he was one of Kaspar's students. But, did you notice that I said in my posting "Kaspar inspired" design versus a real first generation Kaspar piece? I was being thoroughly truthful in my depiction of the more contemporary product from one of his students.

Greg's Kasper style mouthpiece is worth buy. Tone,intonation,and articulation. Specially good with Morre style reeds such as V12,Alexander Classic,and Rico Grand Concert Thick Blank.
Mine is numbered #100.

Oh I see what your saying, Mr. Smith. You don't make Kaspar Mouthpiece you make a mouthpiece resembling the Kaspar mouthpiece, called the old kaspar. While that is not what I thought Mark was asking, I made it clear in the phorum above.
