I've noticed that when I play a series of throat tones that lasts for a while, I start to hear a small crackle noise in my tone. It's not the same as the airy type of fuzz when your reed is too hard, and it only happens on open G and first space F. It seems that slightly harder reeds don't have this problem, but softer ones do (all within in same reed strength number though). I notice it most when going from "pincher keys" throat Bb or throat A down to one of these notes. Slurring to the notes rather than tonguing them intensifies the issue. It sounds almost like it could be spit, but I'm really not sure. Any idea what the cause of this is? Again, regarding which reeds it happens most with, it seems that softer reeds that tend to give me a more "closed" tone than harder, "open-sounding" reeds are the ones that this problem seems more prevalent with. The annoyance, however, is that I've been having to trim down half the reeds in each box to get them all enough on the hard side, sacraficing the easier articulation that comes with softer reeds for better sound on these two notes. By the way, the reeds are Mitchel Lurie Premium #4s.

spit, or maybe something rattling...Is your ligature tightened? No loose parts?

I encounter that too, except i hear the crackling when i transition from the lower register over the break to B. Just like a momentary blip like water gets caught in the Octave key. maybe it's just leftover water residue?
