I, for one, am hoping that our NPR [etc] FM morning "concerts" featuring our beloved inst., and others, may continue at least weekly. This Rich. Strauss work was unfamiliar to me, and am richer for it. David Shifrin and bassonist [missed his name, dern it] played this difficult-sounding Duo beautifully, IMHO, with fine chamber orch accompanying. Hear it if you can ! Don

Don, A bit of background: Strauss dedicated this piece to Hugo Burghauser, solo bassoon and president of the Vienna Philharmonic in the1930s. Dan Leeson posted a fine tribute to this courageous man a few years back. Well worth a search of the Archives.

Don - it's one of my favourite Strauss works, and not so technically challenging as it could be. But a delightful romp for bassoon clarinet and small orchestra.
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

I've only heard the Britten Sinfonia version of this (Joy Farrell and ... again, the bassoonist's name escapes me), though I'd definitely like to hear Schiffrin's version.

I'm playing this in March with the principal bassoonist of English National Ballet, John McDougall can't wait. It's a marvellous work!
