I know of another company that is offering the festival via mail order for $1890 brand new. They also offer you a plan whereby you make payments over six months with no interest and ship it free to you. Funny thing is, I had just given up on trying to get my hands on one: I had "setteled" for the new Yamaha V series. One of my local shops has a LOT of them in stock. They're pretty nice....but they're no Festival.

Yes.
As we've said many times before, every clarinet is a tradeoff; the Festival makes different tradeoffs than a regular R13, but they're both based on the same design. I know people who like the Festival, and I know people who absolutely detest it. That's why they make multiple models.

When all of the folks above get their new horns, they will need to get them adjusted and regulated. Seek professional advice from a very good woodwind tech and especially from a pro tutor for help here. My Festival needed some initial work on it to get it to behave. Expect it. Be patient with it. Be patient with the pros that are working on your horn, too. Believe me, the results are well worth the patience. Plus, most likely, it will be done at no extra cost to you.
Chances are good that your Buffet Festival will come with a Buffet mouthpiece. Many folks will tell you to trash this mp immediately. I beg to differ - to a point. Keep the mp as a test/tuning mp because that's the mp that was used at the factory to get the horn initially adjusted. Any other mp will likely play and sound much better than the factory mp, but the third party mp will require some adjustment of the barrel on your part. Perhaps not a bad trade off, but just keep it in mind. For instance, my pro grade custom made Borbeck 13 mp requires its own barrel length adjustment, just like my Vandoren B45 and 5RVLyre - all of these require me to back off the barrel about 1 mm or so (for my 66mm barrel at A=440). In contrast, the factory mp requires me to push the barrel in all the way for proper tuning, leaving no room for getting sharper if necessary.
Here are a couple points of advice for the Festival. First, it has the left hand Ab/Eb key, but other than that it's a standard Boehm system clarinet. Beware of drills (for me starting at 4 sharps or 4 flats) requiring the potential use of this key. It can get you in trouble faster than you think. Yes, learn how to use this key well, but also continue to learn other techniques for getting the notes as if you don't have the key, such as sliding. Second, the silver plated keys require additional care compared to nickel plated keys. Fetch the silver tarnish prevention strips (3M, Hagarty's brands are available) and use one in your closed case. Whenever you are done with your session, swab and wipe down the entire horn to remove all moisture and fingerprints, then store the horn in the case. Don't mix lower grade metals in the same case, or if you have to put that extra ligature or mp cover in the case, don't let lower grade metal objects touch the silver or come into contact with a wet swab rag with low grade/high grade metals. No soft rubber products (rubber bands, erasers, etc.) can be stored in the case, either. Finally, care for the horn as a thoroughbred. It's capable of great things, but it can be damaged or destroyed with the slightest mishandling. Keep it indoors, clean it up after each session, use the Buffet provided case for the horn, protect it all with a gig bag, lock it up, insure it to the maximum, and most of all - play it regularly.
