I picked up a 1998 CD of Mr. Lovano's, TRIO FASCINATION edition one(BLUE NOTE-capitol records). He has listed: straight alto sax, alto clarinet, tenor sax, soprano sax. First off, I had never heard of a straight alto sax, and now as I listen to the CD, I'm having a hard time identifying alto clarinet. I guess it's just my ear--I'll keep listening. Michael

There are pictures of straight altos in the WW & BW catalog. They're not perfectly straight; there is some bend to the bell and neck.

Steve is correct. There are "straight" altos in the style of the older "saxello". These instruments are not the same however (saxello and striaght alto).

Right. I don't recall if the Buescher straigt alto had a "name" other than straight alto sax. They're rather rare. The Saxello was a King (I think) soprano with a tipped bell.
At least one company is making straight alto and tenor saxes, LA Sax.
