Heyy there. I was wondering what instrument would be easy to pick as your second instrument.

It depends on what appeals to you and what you want to do with it.
My second instrument is recorder. There's lots of great music for it, and it gives you the chance to play music written before the clarinet was invented.
You should also think about singing. It makes all instrumental playing better and introduces you to music you probably don't know about.
Sticking to wind instruments, if you want to play professionally, you should be able to play every size clarinet from Eb through BBb contra, as well as the various saxophones, which are a comparatively easy switch.
If you want to play in pit orchestras for shows, the most valuable doubles are oboe and bassoon, since few people play them, but you'll also need to play flute, which I find lots of fun.
Every new instrument improves your clarinet playing, because it gives you a new perspective.
Just remember that clarinet is your main instrument and keep yourself in good shape on it.

piano. you'll learn a lot about rhythm, music theory, etc. which will help your clarinet playing.
and i 2nd the singing notion. my piano teacher made me sing as part of each piano lesson.

Its a lot easier to pick up a recorder or fife than it is to pick up a piano. I recommed the use of a crane and a dolly for the piano. And, you can put a jaw harp in your pocket.

Just for the heads up. What instruments get the most scholarships? I heard that you really have to be amizing to get a scholarship for clarinet .
