Has anyone tried both the Vandoren Klassik and Masters ligatures? If so, can you please give your impressions of them. I would expect the Klassik to be darker sounding. But, does it have a muted effect on one's sound and projection?
Thanks, Roger

I can only speak about the Klassik - it does not "mute" the sound in any fashion. It's darker than most ligatures, but I find it projects well, and still has a nice "intesity" to it. I'm very happy with mine.

I use a Klassik as well, and love it. Contrary to muting the sound, I think it ads some resonance, a good bit of darkness, and really doesn't hurt projection compared to Bonades, Masters ect. The one possible downside is that I found it to respond slightly slower than most metal ligs (It doesn't bother me though).

Ben,
Do you really think the Masters ligature impairs projection? How so?
It's seemed to me that the Masters has a very intelligent design in striking a balance between providing a good seal, not having the ligature touch the sides of the reed stock, and having a minimal amount of metal on the mouthpiece as well as the reed.
I have a Klassik on order and look forward to trying it on my Grabner K14.
Thanks, Roger

I play mainly 3 ligatures on Bb clarinet, shoe-lace, Oleg, and Vandoren Masters (by the way the reasons I choose which one to use are mostly not related to their sound). I really like the Masters Vandoren ligature. I have tried the Klassik only one time, and didn't notice any improvements. On bass clarinet I use only the Vandoren Masters.

The Klassik ligature arrived and I'm very impressed with it. My impressions are similar to the comments posted. The Klassik really brings out the natural dark, warm, and resonant qualities of my Grabner K14. Importantly, my concerns about the ligature dampening my sound or projection were quickly laid aside. In fact, it seems to me that my sound is even MORE powerful with the Klassik than with the Masters ligature. This is a great match for my set up and for me. Most happy!
