anyone else playing this piece this yr?
i just got it to play in 3 weeks and im panicking.
there are certain parts i keep "fumbling" and i dont know if
i will have it good by the concert date.
theres only so many times i can play those sections over
and over in a practice session before i need to move on to
something else.
any advice?

Slow the parts down to half speed or less and work on building tempo daily in small incrememnts.

this is my first yr at playing 1st/solo and i dont want to make a fool of myslf. i have all the harp parts.

Surely the conductor will slow the tempo for you.

I'm doing the full ballet at the moment. I know how tough it is! Play it slowly for now. I think the important thing is to get the character right and the hard bits will come.

A notation question...... why do some arrangers insist on writing flats mixed
with sharps on the Bb part????? Maybe it's me but I would rather see a part
with all naturals!

hmmm - maybe a composer here can answer that.
i hate it when theres a double sharp ...or double flat
like in this piece theres an F## why didnt they just put G?
maybe this could be a new thread so people out there who
know will see the question.

today i have arranged a practice session with our clarinet
section. not just for the nutcracker - but im sure we all
want to practice it. we dont usually get a chance to get
together outside of rehearsal so this should be good.
MUSICA - when is your concert?
i made a bit of progress in my practice yesterday so im feeling a little more hopeful.

I was faced with the Bb version of the Waltz of the Flowers last Christmas, and it was a very, very bad experience --performance combined with audition.
I've talked to two pros, and they both refuse to play the Waltz of the Flowers on Bb clarinets.
Borrow an A at least for the Waltz!
