I recently completed a successful, involved, and lengthy endeavor to purchase two Bela Kovacs CD's. Unfortunately no distributor outside of Hungary carries his CD's. Most of you know him as an extraordinarily talented clarinetist, who plays in many styles, and he's quite prolific as a composer for our instrument. On his website, kovacsclarinet.hu, he has audio clips from his recordings that are exquisite teasers........I had to seek acquiring two his CD's: "Hommages" and "Bela Kovacs plays clarinet.....just a little bit differently". (Luckily his publications are readily available, at Jeanne and Van Cott among others)
These CDs are only available from Rose Ltd, in Budapest. Go to rose.hu, and the email contact is mail@rose.hu. Marton Papp is who I dealt with. He required an international bank transfer of funds for purchase and shipping, not able to take any other method. For both CD's and shipping it amounted to about $42, although my bank also charged a $25 fee. The whole process has taken about 6 weeks, but now I'm enjoying listening to these CDs. They're each short at about 35 minutes each, but great playing of original pieces, and very well recorded. Highly recommended.

His studies "Hommages" are great. I wish I could get a hold of a recording of them by the man himself. The "De Falla" is especially fun although listening his version on the web site, I probably play at 1/4 of the speed he does :(

I have the Bela Kovacs recording of the brahms quintet and it is superb! I also am a big fan of the Hommages after playing the Strauss and De Falla. Fantastic!

There's also a Naxos CD called Clarinet Evergreens with Bela Kovacs and Budpest Clarinet Quartet. Lots of lolipops but beautifully played.

Just got the Hommages CD from Luyben Music.
Each of the Hommages is introduced by a poem, which is a little corny for my taste.
On the other hand, the clarinet playing is impeccable and these etudes can make for great showpieces as an encore.
