My Eb clarinet started putting out a horrid resonating sound from 3rd space C up to the A above. The lower register is fine and anything in the altissimo is fine. I know the pads are all sealing properly. I'm wondering if it could be the climate changes (humidty/temperature) or the mouthpiece. Depending on the reed, the clarinet is almost not playable in that range. Where it does play well, it produces a nice, bright clean sound.
Has anyone experienced something like this? It is hard to describe the sound. If I focus I can get the pitch out but I can start to hear the resonance just under the pitch. If I drop the pitch, it falls into the resonating sound.
The clarinet is a Nobet with a VD B44 mp and a VD optimum ligature. It has the original barrel.
I also just thought, the metal ring on the bell is loose. Hmmm.. I'll have to try something to see if that is the issue.
Well it is later on this evening an I had a chance to test the thought of the bell ring vibrating and that was it.. whew...
