I was just wondering what the differences between all of the vandoren mouthpieces are...like m15..m30...5rv...the list goes on and on...is it just like a facing, chamber..ect. or level....any input?

If you search through the older threads you'll find a lot of discussion on the vandoren beaks...I think almost everyone here has played one at some point or another.

The simple answer is mainly facing. There are SOOOO many different things you can do to the curvature of a facing just to achieve the SAME results for an individual player. The wealth of different facings in the Vandoren line is meant to address (amongst other things) the difference between those of us who prefer a long facing versus a short facing.
I've become quite the fan of Vandoren lately. For a machine made product that can be readily obtained without too much out-of-pocket sacrifice they are amazing mouthpieces.
As for the "chamber" part of your question, one of the other things they do is market an "American Pitch" version of many of the facings and call it a "Series 13." These mouthpieces do utilize a larger tone chamber (greater volume of air in the same space) to lower the pitch (and ostensibley produce a "darker" sound).
For me the 5RV Lyre (longer lay than the 5RV) and the M15 are VERY similar. The M15 may just be a bit less open though. However, there were a number of folks on the board getting a bit heated over just how different they were and which was better. This is why any mouthpiece needs to be carefully auditioned before purchase.

5RV has been around for donkey's years (is it actually a hundred yet? anyone?) and I guess its endurance shows how good they got the basic concept. The 'B' series (40, 45, 46) are a more recent development and in general are more 'open' facings than the 5RV. Take a look around this site and you'll find that the B45 divides players rather like marmite: you either love it or hate it with a passion. The 'M' series are even newer, and are long-facing mpc's which feel extremely odd to someone brought up on the 5RV, like me.
In the UK they're quite the standard by which others are compared, and you can try and buy them almost anywhere. I get the feeling from this site that their US presence isn't quite the same.
I play 'B45 dot'. This apparently has had some chamber work done compared to B45, but what exactly I couldn't say. I find it plays a heck of a lot easier.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here, and new to the clarinet...I go on SOTW and know all about the "search" feature but I am limited on time and thought y'all could help me out with my specific question...
I am primarily a tenor player of 18 years, new to the clarinet. I've been playing a Noblet 40 with a morgan protone, rovner lig and vandoren 2.5s for a couple of months. I got a B45 CHEAP at a closeout sale and I like it because it's bigger and easier for me to blow. I switched to v12 #3 reeds for the B45. I'm going back to that store and they have M13s, 5RVs (with and without lyre) and B40s for sale also. Which of these would fit best for me to have a more controlled, "classical" sound given the above info--I was thinking I could use the B45for jazz and another of these for a more traditional sound.
Gotta run. Any info would be appreciated...next time I'lls earch on my own. : )

Vandoren mouthpieces all work and play well provided one spends a bit of time working on getting the correct reed for them...I would add the B40 is among the more resistant mouthpieces about the market so be sure to use a reed soft enought to match it...as to the M15 and M30 they are very easy to play and are quite a good deal considering the price of some mouthpieces out there.
