 Help me, please?! : )

Well, school's out and I'm already bored of doing nothing. I'm looking for some challenging clarinet pieces (Mozart's concerto is getting a little old) to tackle! Weber's first concerto in F is going alright, and I'd like to know of some more GOOD music to work on this summer...suggestions/comments anyone?

Have you tried the Brahms sonatas?

I like the Weber Concertino, Schumann Fantasy Pieces, Weber Grand Duo Concertante, and the Poulenc Sonata. If I were to choose one of these, I'd go for Poulenc! I'm in college and hope to play the Sonata in the upcoming year.

You are already out on summer break? I hate you!!;o)
Do you plan to continue music in college? If so, go to those web sites and look under auditions. They will usually havepieces that they want you to prepare. Give yourself a headstart and start early. They don't change very often, and if they do, it will just be more audition ammo that you will be glad to have under your belt later!!

Maybe your are a little bored of German composers.
How about trying French pieces by Debussy,Bozza,...,or trying Italian pieces by Cavlini? It may be refreshing.

Other ideas(These do not cost any money to buy sheet musics):
1. Play Rose 32 etudes but changing articulations.(This is what flute players usually do on etudes.)
2. Transpose any composition and see what happens. It made us understand why they are written in the original way.

There is so much wonderful music for the clarinet I don't know where to begin. There is always the classic German music you can play that we all love. I love the Brahms Sonatas as well as all of Weber's music. But if you want to pull away from that, I highly reccomend the book "Sixteen Grands Solos de Concert." It is chock full of some great music including the Lefebvre Fantasie Caprice, Messager's Solo de Concours, some Jeanjean, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the BumbleBee, and to balance things out, Weber's Conertino. I think the book runs about $12. Definitely a great investment. I personally like the lyrical runs of French music and I know I've talked about this before, but I love the Bozza. It is a tad tricky and sort of weird, but a few beautiful parts of it make it all worthwhile. Just a few of my humble opinions.

Amber,

I plan to play my clarinet in college, but I'm not going to study music (Georgia Tech, afterall, is NOT a music school, hehe). I'm just looking for some fun/challenging stuff to play this summer.

I started to memorize Weber Concertino,Rabaud's Solo de Concour,Poulenc Sonata, and Rose 32 etudes. I found myself that I cannot play any of them perfectly by memory, and thought it miserable.

Challenging one? OK. There is very challengin one.
Transcriptions of Bach's viollin/cello sonatas/partitas.
12 Pezzi published by Ricordi. How about playing this by memory?

I can play them sufficiently with my flute, but cannot by my clarinet to my sorry. It is too difficult for me.

Try Debussy's Premiere Rhapsody. I think it's a fairly difficult piece. Musical in some sections, technical in others.
