Do you know of any Jazz collections that have CD accompaniment?????? I wanted to play at a restaurant but didn't have anyone to accompany me and wanted to know if that existed. Let me know. Thanks

All the Jamey Aebersold book/Cd combinations are a good choice(found at most sheet music stores). The books have tunes and chord changes transposed for C, Bb, Eb, and Bass Clef instruments. Great for improvisation practice as well.

There are many play along CD's of jazz standards. In particular, I like these 2 items which would work for performing in public:

#MMOCD3218: Jazz Standards with Rhythm Section

#MMOCD3219: Jazz Standards with Strings ('Tis Autumn)

both available from Gary Van Cott:

One caveat on the Jamey Aebersold books...all start with an audible count off. There are a lot of play-along books these days, and you might want to seek out some that have introductions rather than verbal count-offs.

I think your best bet would be Band in a Box. www.pgmusic.com. They have a great forum also.

You can choose various styles, use fake jazz books, improvise etc. Many musicians use it for exactly for what you are looking for. I use (for practice) just the bass, drums and keyboard, mic my clarinet and use a korg triton rack my computer and jbl 10" speakers. Great sound.

Best of luck.

For a really top shelf rhythm section, any of the books in Jerry Bergonzi's "Inside Improvisation" have rhythm sections playing on the CDs; various standard chord progressions at different tempos- guys like Bruce Barth on piano and Adam Nussbaum on drums- really, the best feeling rhythm sections around and light years beyond anything BIAB can deliver (although BIAB is indeed excellent for the practice room) IMHO.

...and the content of the books is enough to keep you busy for awhile as well!

There are some great books with cd on sheetmusicplus.com. One really good one is titled Jazz & Blues. It's one of the Hal Leonard series. I have the tenor sax book which I use for clarinet, but you could put in a search and see if there is a clarinet edition. It has a great cd accomanyment.

"Music Minus One" has some pretty good CDs that I've enjoyed playing along with.

I've been using MMOs for 7 years and although not cheap, they suit my needs well. I recommend the below CD sets for playing the Dixieland, straight ahead standards and for theory training and application. Point of order: if used as a studio recording accompaniment, a base fee must be paid to MMO and song publisher.

In the Hal Leonard series there are many volumes (at least 70) covering the work of specific composers as well as various compilations. They all have melody parts in C, B flat, E flat and bass clef C.
The accompaniments are fine but all the books require a certain amount of improvisational skill.
