I just wanted to let people know about a clarinet festival that occurred last weekend in Rochester at Eastman. It was a clarinet choir festival that brought groups from around the United States and Canada. Clarinet choirs came from as far as Florida, Seattle and Ontario to participate in the event. Participants ranged in age from young teens to octogenarians. There were concerts, master classes and vendor booths set up, which ran from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. It was an incredible experience with great performances and lots of information to consume. My only wish was that I had time to attend every event that was scheduled. I was in clarinet heaven. Some of the highlights for me were the master classes by Patti DiLutis and Robert DiLutis on intonation and tonguing, Kenneth Grant discussing and demonstrating playing in an orchestra both as principal and second, and Jon Manasse’s beautiful musicianship along with Jon Nakamatsu on piano. What a fantastic treat to hear them play together! Sigh. The clarinet choirs I heard all sounded terrific. There were 12 ensembles that performed. Ensemble sizes ranged from a trio up to a choir of 60 clarinetists with 6 percussionists. It demonstrated the flexibility of clarinet playing and adapting music for various sizes of clarinet ensembles. Playing in the festival mass choir concert with other members of the various groups was a great experience. The mass choir was directed by Harvey Hermann and Matt Sexton. There were other artists and clinicians that participated in making the event a success by their presence—Dave Gould, Francois Kloc, Ramon Ricker and Peter Wright to name a few. Everyone shared their great love and passion for music and the clarinet.
Hopefully others who attended will post their experiences here as well.
The trip was definitely more than worth the time and effort it took to get there.
Next year the event will be held in Seattle around the same time of year. Be sure to attend! It will be well worth it.

Garret,
Where does one begin to search for tickets or whatever it takes to make that trip? It sure sounds like something I would like to attend. Let me know if there's a website or a no. where I can call to find out.
Respectfully,
Myrna

There's no website that I'm aware of. I only found out through my clarinet teacher, who also led one of the ensembles that performed. I will post more information as it becomes available next year.
