Totally depressed & need new clarinet

Hi,

So I have been playing on my 20+ year old Evette Master Model, which is slowly but surely losing its grip on reality.

I would love to replace it with a newer instrument, but the budget is really tight. I can't imagine paying between 1300-1999 or so for a second-hand R-13, and the Yamaha 650s don't seem to be available pretty much anywhere.

Someone has a used CX for sale, but I'm not sure what to make of it. Asking price is similar to the price for a new 650 -- IF I can get my hands on one.

What is a good quality mid priced option other than some of the things I've mentioned??
Oy, I think I can't even see the forest for the trees anymore. I need some good, solid advice on this one. : )

ummm hope you don't mind me saying this
but instead of a new clarinet, get your Master Model completely overhauled by a REALLY REALLY good craftsman and try out a new barrel (well, try out several new barrels). Both of these can make a huge change/improvement to an instrument, and are a lot cheaper than a new (or 2nd hand) instrument.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have considered it. The only thing is that sometimes I wonder if it makes sense to invest $600+ dollars in an instrument that would hardly fetch $150 is I were to sell it even after spending that kind of money on it. (Not that I intend to sell it, but you know what I mean.) It makes sense on one hand, but seems crazy on the other, so I am stuck in the debate.

The Master Model is also usually very in tune, generally speaking, which I am somewhat afraid to give up!!

I think I will call around today to look at my options. Alphin is near me in MA and I could bring it to him in person. The Clarinuts people are also here in my state, albeit a bit of a drive.

Any other suggestions about who I could call in the MA.NH area? If I were to take this route, I am not really looking to ship my clarinet anywhere...

There are several excellent technicians on this board . . . you might chat with a couple of them directly off the BB about overhauling your clarinet, and it shouldn't cost you anywhere near $600. I'm getting ready to send my Master off to David Spiegelthal and let him work his magic on it. So, don't run out and buy another horn before fully checking on fixing up the Evette Master . . . it's normally a really good horn and worth an overhaul. Eu

jut buy another evette master model

. they go for very cheap on sites that sell them....if it needs work, you'll still be well under your price range if you get it fixed up. good luck
