my birthday is coming up, and my mom wants to get me a new clarinet (makes me mad bc i just bought a csg with my own money) and since i have the yamaha, i think i might buy an old leblanc symphony, dynamic, LL, L7 or a selmer center tone. should i get one of these old clarinets and have it fixed up, or should i just get a new clarinet

I would go out and buy an A or and Eb. Get something different and fun to try.

Depends how happy you are with what you just bought. If you are not totally loving it then get your Mum to pay for something else, and sell the one you have....
Sounds like your mum really loves you babe! Better make a tape of her favourite tunes (played by you of course) to say thanks.

i don't think i want to buy a different clarinet. I've had bad experiences with the Eb and bass clarinet....and yes my mom loves me ...i think i've drove her to hating the clarinet, i play a few hours a day and she usually leaves the house a few hours i start bc she knows whats coming , i just wish she would've stopped my from getting my yamaha. i would get a saxaphone, but i absolutely !HATE! saxaphone. i just want to have.....i guess you can say the "must have" clarinet for clarinet players. i here people talking about there cts or LLs, and i think im missing out on something.

Would she be prepared to put that same amount of money in to lessons for you from a really good teacher? (presuming you are not already having lessons...)

wow, thanks for bringing that up. i've been asking her to get me lessons for a while. i will definetly keep that in mind. about the old or new clarinet though...i was thinking about the new leblanc symphony. that seems to be the perfect medium of the two.

If I were you, my wish list would probably look something like ...
1. 93xxx - 103xxx Buffet
2. Selmer CT (P or early Q serial number)
3. 21xxx - 25xxx Buffet
4. One of those really rare Selmer 10G's hand finished by Ralph Morgan (I forget the putative serial number range)
5. Leblanc L7
Bill.
