 Reed/Glottal stop
Author: Quiet

I recently switched from a 2.0 to a 2.5 strength reed and have been having difficulties playing, as well as sore throat muscles to the point where I can't talk sometimes. Can anybody help me?

Maybe use a 2.25 strength reed.

I can't see how reed strength can give you sore throat muscles unless you're not breathing or tongueing properly.

You can't start a note with a glottal stop.

I remember using my throat (or glottis) to initiate sounds when I first started playing, and did that until I learned how to tongue. Sometimes, I still use throat stops or plosives for a different affect.

Maybe you should go back to your #2 for a while, and work on tongueing as Chris P suggests.

Good luck!
