I have recently bought an alto clarinet and wondered if there was commercially available stand for this instrument. Where could I buy one? Has anyone made a stand for this instrument or could tell me how to make one.

You might check Woodwind and Brasswind on-line at http://www.wwandbw.com They have tons of stuff. You can also check the Sneezy Sponsors list at the bottom of this page.

I have made a "stand" by making up a "hook" to fit into the bottom half of a Hamilton music stand for holding the A C by its neck-strap loop. Its prob. not very convenient but may work also for other large horns. Don

Gary, I don't have a peg on my alto, but the K&M stand seems to work just fine. Is it bad for the instrument for the bell to sit on the little round holder? Michael

Yes, I did and can lead you to the instructions. Just view my selfmade basset horn stand at the visitor's upload section here on sneezy.
Perhaps this is what you searched, if you adapt some measures to your instrument.

Thank you Arnold for the excellent pictures of your basset horn stand. I am sure this can be adapted for the alto clarinet. I will hunt for the parts. Thanks again.

I would be concerned about scratches and the possibility of the instrument being knocked out. Once upon a time on the klarinet list, someone described a replacement for the cup at the bottom. I cannot recall what it was. You might be able to find it in the archives.

Hey--
I played bass clarinet for an orchestra, and just used my alto sax stand.. it worked fine! (they're fairly cheap too, but get a sturdy one!!)

I enclose suggestions made by a response I got from alt.music.clarinet
>>believe it or not, the 9.99 guitar stand at the music store will work you take the bottom part (where it detaches - looks like a U)and bend it so that it will support the bell of the instrument.
adjust the top part all the way down (you might need to cut this part down)so that it provides a place for the top to lean against.
This also works great for the bass clarinet, and usually no modifications are needed for the bigger instrument. It sure beats paying a bazillion dollars for a wire stand quality holder!<<
I have tried it and it seems to work.
