I'm in need of a new mouthpiece. Badly.
I'm a senior in High School.
Even though marching band and pepe band have made me a better techinal player but my tone is a little bright.
I need a mouthpiece to make me sound more mature.
My old section leader and the one before her use a crystal mouthpiece.
But my director keeps harping B45 at me I need to know what to do...
Help?
Suggestions?
Anything.

Depends on what you're using now, but the Vandoren line is very good to include M15, M30, B40 Lyre (in ever more open increments). The B45 is kinda open (well, not much different than the B40 Lyre).
Other considerations are the Hite and the Genusa (even their so called "student" models are excellent) whose prices are very reasonable - good deals through Woodwind Brasswind.

5RV profile 88 or M15 or M30 can give you more mature sound.
These are cheaper mouthpieces than for example, Charles Bay, Gregory Smith Smith, Grabner, Kaspar or Zinner that I think are the best in term of sound but they are more expensive than vandoren. It's obivious that your instrument set up has to be in line with the kind of music that you play, the way to blow and so on.

If you are used to play a B45 and want to sound a little less bright the B40 may be a good mouthpiece for you. If you can, go to a local shop, try a few different models and buy the one you like best.
