 leaving...

Hi.
Well...my daddy was transferred to Jakarta Indonesia this month. He really likes it there right now even though he's been there only about a week. He likes the fact that he can have a maid and a cook and afford plus he gets a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo even though it's just him. He wants us to go there, and even though I know that I'll probably go there eventually, he wants us to leave in August just before school starts. And even though I'm fighting this, I don't know if I'll be able to stay here. I really like this place and I'm attached so I don't want to leave. So anyone know of a contact in Jakarta? Just in case.

Dear Nicole,

My brother, a keen saxophonist spent a year in Indonesia on exchange. While I cannot offer you any contacts, i can assure you that musical life is alive and well in this enormous city. Maybe an easy place to start looking for like-minded musicians ( I assume that's what you're looking for) is at the embassy of your home country. I know the Australian embassy in jakarta helped my brother in this regard.

I hope all goes well, and suggest to you that a bigger problem will be making sure your instrument doesn't go mouldy in the tropical climate! (It happened to by brother)

Bye,
Robin Henry.

Selamat Paggi! (an Indonesian greeting)
Oh GO if you can. What an amazing opportunity!! There will be new food, new language, new ethnicities, and new perspectives on music. Jakarata is a very international place and I know English-speaking music teachers will be around.

I know it is hard to leave -- it involves some grieving. But pack your clarinet and a boatload of good reeds, then let us know how it goes. You can still be in touch with us Sneezy-ites via the 'Net!
