And we heard it here first! Thank you, John. Lovely work, lovely performance. I hope he makes it available, too.
Best regards,

Well, John,
It's a lovely piece, in a conservative idiom; beautifully performed by all concerned -- especially yourself!
I can't understand why he calls it a minuet -- except for the fact that it appears to be in 3/4 time. I would have called it "Pastorale" or "Soliloquy", or "Janet" (my wife).
Perhaps you can give us a little more background as to who the other players were, the occasion for this recording, the conductor (composer?).
Bravo, bravo!
Larry

Larry asks:
"Perhaps you can give us a little more background as to who the other players were, the occasion for this recording, the conductor (composer?)."
Here in NYC we've been involved in building up the Video Game Music industry, that is taking back some of the recording work we've lost to less expensive European orchestras.
So over the past few years we have slowly been able to record and have our soundtracks used for some pretty well know Video Games (like Merregnon II), and this little MINUET will probably wind up as a theme for one of the new Video Games due out in 2007.
The MINUET was written by Andy Brick, a NYC composer, conductor, Video Game Writer, etc. All the musicians recorded this piece at different times, and at different sessions, so I'm not sure of the actual personnel. I know that Paul Dunkel played all the flute parts, and Junah Chung played viola. I can find out who else played after I've spoken to Andy. He just sent me the finished mix as this MP3 file, so we haven't spoken about how it will be used or who played on the various dates.
We had no conductor, just Andy in the booth, with the recording engineer at the board, and a click track.
It's literally, "hot off the press."

More like a tone poem than a minuet. Ravishing!
Thank you.

Thanks for sharing the new MINUET by Andy Brick. I enjoyed listening to the beautiful music and greatly appreciate your ability as a clarinetist. Well done! I'd like to try playing it if the sheet music becomes available.
Your information about the video games was also quite interessting.
Thanks.

Thanks FDF, I'll try to get Andy to make the parts available on .pdf files, so we can share them. He's eager to have his music heard and played.

Minuet & Trio
07-11-2006
I have just completed composing a Minuet and Trio comission. The piece is based on my impressions of the unique bond and union between mother and child. In a wonderful departure from the faster pace of much of the music I am often comissioned to write, this piece has come out so beautifully with its magical, slow sway. I am really proud of this one. I have called on a very late impressionistic musical vocabulary and merged it with a somewhat traditional form. The live recording of this piece should be amazing. After years of tremendous support from the eminant Clarinettist John Moses I decided to feature his extraordinary playing in the piece. Many thanks to Fred Elman and his upcoming developments for making this piece possible and of course, many thanks to all the musicians involved.

John J. Moses,
Aside from the video music, I notice that both you and Andy Brick have impressive film credits. I’m intrigued by your work. Thanks for the information

A little more info for all of you who are interested in the musicians who worked on Andy Brick's MINUET:
Here is the line up.
Andy Brick, Composer
John Moses, Clarinet
Paul Lustig Dunkel, Flute
Junah Chung, Viola
Matthew Kajcienski, Violin
Patrick Jee, Cello
Reed Robins, Engineer, Mixer, Producer
PS Thanks, FDF, I have done quite a few movie soundtracks (about 150+), and a few Video Game soundtracks. I believe the future will be in the Video Game industry for live music. It seems that sales, worldwide have exceeded the film sales, and will continue to do so in the future. Our live music film soundtracks have recently bottomed out, but may come back. On the other hand, Video Game soundtracks have taken off over the past few years, and look very healthy for the future.

That was played very well. I was wondering, what kind of clarinet/mouthpiece/reed/ligature combination do you use. My tone is more dull and doesn't ring like yours; i love your tone.

Hi jmberch:
I glad you enjoyed Andy Brick's new piece for Clarinet.
My "setup" is:
Buffet R-13 400,*** series
HITE mpc, JJM facing (like a Kaspar 11, but longer)
Jimmy Yan barrel, JJM taper (ala Moennig, but no rings)
Vandoren #5, (vintage 1970-1980)
Ligature, Francois Louis (FL-Brass)
A Clarinet sound has a lot to do with your embouchure, tongue, and air column, not only the equipment. What do you use?

Here's some good news from Andy Brick about his new MINUET for Clarinet:
Hi John:
Thank you so much for your email. Of course I would love any performances of the piece and Im delighted that its being received well. I have received a few requests for the printed music so people can play along... wow...
Friday I will head over to Reeds place and make a "music minus one" version. Then I will post the entire score and parts with the mp3s of the full cadence version including you and the same as a "music minus one" on the web.

Hi John
I think my air flow, embouchure and tounge is correct. I play long tones 30 minutes everyday; i was told at a "master's class" at All South Honor Band by whoever the clarinet professor is over there, to keep my tounge in a 'E' position (as if i was saying e).
I (unfortunatly) use a Buffet Crampon Evette E11 (sereal-15874, don't really know how old it is). I use a Selmer HS* mouthpiece with a cloth ligature and a size 3.5 vandorean rue lepic reed.
I think i might get a Selmer 10G clarinet soon, and i'm always trying new mouthpieces. I like the sound i get now, it's just that want a...i guess you can say ringing tone, if that you know what i mean; mine is darker, and duller i guess. I think i'm gonna try out the Vanorean 5RV lyre mouthpiece; i'm thinking about trying a few metal ligatures too.
