A friend of mine gave me a selmer USA cl200 clarinet.
I would like to know how old is this instrument?
All it say is: Selmer USA CL200 and then a seriel number 5630.
is it a wood clarinet? is it Bb, A?
Is it good to start studing clarinet? It came with a Yamaha 4C mouthpice.
Thanks a lot!

I own a Selmer CL200. It's a student level, wood Bb clarinet, circa 1980's. It plays well and has a wonderful tone.

When I bought my E11 a while ago, I tried playing a Semler CL200 (although it actually might have had a slightly different model number) and really liked it. At first it played better than the Buffet, but I had the technician adjust a few pads and the Buffet ended up playing more evenly. But considering that the Selmer was about two hundred dollars cheaper, I would say it's a good deal. Yours in particular, since you got it for free.
