Something funny happened in my laundry...

LOL, it's kinda funny saying this. Ok, I'm a high school senior, and nearing the end of the school year, there have been many things plaguing my mind before summer and college in the fall. Anyways, this weekend I have State Solo&Ensemble contest in Austin, and in order to make sure I had a few good reeds handy and ready to work for a change in weather, I bought 2 size 4 and 2 size 5 VD traditionals from my teacher. I practiced for about 45 minutes yesterday on each one and settled on one of the 4s because of the projection and clarity I need in my solo (Sonate by Saint-Saens). Well, After school, I put my horn away, along with the rest of my equipment... except I forgot to put away my shorts. Being in a rush, I just jammed them into my pocket and took off for home. Well, after taking a shower and changing, I forgot that I still had the reeds in my shorts... This morning when going to practice at home (we have the rest of the week off), I realized they were still there. When I found them, I cursed myself because all four reeds were warped like they were played by Mick Jagger (no offense) lol... Well, other than the physical appearance, I wondered if the laundry detergent had any effect on them... I soaked them all in water and placed them on a cd jewel case to try to bring them back to normal looking conditions, as of now that I'm trying them, they work great, if not a little better than yesterday. Haha, guess my accident didn't end up being as drastic as I thought...

It so happens that I keep reeds in generic little plastic, unlabelled margarine tubs in the fridge. It so happens that my mom does the same with leftovers. Went travelling, in a hurry to leave, grabbed one of such little generic, unlabelled, plastic margarine tubs as I was leaving the house. 'Nuff said!

LOL! Hmm, I wonder how a used-up reed would work as a butter-spreader....

Re. the reeds in the laundry, I guess that's one way to make sure they're clean! How interesting that they still play. What maximum temperature did they reach, do you know? I'm curious how well they last.

Lelia, I have no idea, but everyone's reeds in my area are subjected to high temps all year round (we average above 80) and now, temps can get into the 100s by 11or12... And they did go through the wash and dryer, so i'm kinda perplexed.
