It's very rainy and windy here on the east coast, and about the only excitement today, other than early office dismissals, was the arrival of two mouthpieces I got from an "antiques dealer."
The best things I've obtained have been by "accident." I found an ancient Bettoney mouthpiece in a box of kitchen supplies. I bought a three-digit L series Selmer thinking I was getting a BT (it was better than that - a late K series bore). So I bought these two mouthpieces because one was a very old Penzel-Mueller (pre-"Artist"). My former teacher and some others were scrambling after these and I just had to try one. I played it, lightly refaced it, and played it again. Nice. Nothing special.
The other mouthpiece in the lot was an "O. Schreiber, New York." Whatever. A curiosity. I wound about 50 yards of PVC tape onto the tenon and started to play it. OK, here was a sound I liked. What a surprise!
I realize these reflections are essentially meaningless because we all have a different idea of what we like. For me, it's a sort of purity and center to the tone. The Schreiber has this plus ... a unique sweetness. Paired with my wayward old 25xxx Buffet, intonation is excellent.
Well, lots of enjoyment ahead this weekend (in between checking the sump pump in the basement).

Bill, The first pic makes it look like the table is recessed. Is this an illusion?

Yeah, that photo does look strange! No, the table is quite "true."
Whenever I acquire something good,enjoyable, I just have to enthuse about it to to somebody who has a chance of understanding

Congrats, Bill, I have a couple of Old PM mps,pretty good ! I let one go with my [1925?] Full Boehm PM traded to our local History Museum for a "winged" Selmer A, [by HS?] since mine had relationship to our local Symp Orch's early days and the Sel was an "unknown" [to them] . I assume the pics are of the Schreiber, I noticed the smooth transition to the bore, makes sense to me!, and the near parallel "sides" to the windcut [or is window the better term?]. From name I'd guess its a "German" not French ?? Thinking of other mps, have you experts ever heard of "Accu Rated by Artie Richardson" , in script on lower back, 2 lines, making double use of the caps A and R. Its a small one, both body and tenon, ?perhaps made for a C cl ? Fun, Don
