This is silly, but I have had a long day and can't do the math.....
I have a piece which is allegro moderato, and in 9/8. My metronome doesn't do 9s and I'd like to set it to three in a bar anyway otherwise the beeping will drive me mad. But what speed should that three in a bar be?
It's no 21 by Muller in the 50 Classical Studies ed Weston, anyone wants to know.

120-130 BPM should be alright.

No, that's my ISP. It comes up different nearly everyday. It was Reading last week!
And I think I was optimistic in saying I could play it at that speed,...................90 is more like it!

At least your ISP is in the same country and continent as you!
Definitely take it at the slower pace (90BPM) to start with, then gradually build up the speed - I reckon 120-130 max. is around a moderate allegro, especially as it's in 9/8.

Chris P - what/when are you playing in Lewes? I might come to listen. Email me.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.
