I mentioned the lack of a CD of Charles Draper's recording of Schubert's Octet, on this board a few months ago. I said it was criminal. But, finally, justice has been done.
Rockport Records has issued this recording as part of a series celebrating the Lener String Quartet. The disc is called "The Lener String Quartet Volume 3" number RR5008.
In my view this is the most wonderful clarinet playing I have ever listened to, and the performance in general is on a very high plane. Not everyone will like it, but if it rings your bell, it will ring it very loud indeed.
Furthermore, as Rockport Records have said that the series will cover all of the recordings of the Lener Quartet, the Beethoven Septet and Ravel's Introduction and Allegro will be out in due course, all featuring Draper.
