Barrel Questions
The barrel length of my Selmer CT seems long, yet a recent Selmer C* mouthpiece I purchased causes the instrument to play sharp. I’ve been considering a new barrel. However, it occurred to me I don’t really know how to measure a barrel. Does the length of a barrel include the rings, or idoes the barrel length exclude the tenons, measureing the bore with the upper joint and mouthpiece inserted? (Hope I made that clear.) There is a big difference between the two measurements.
Also, since I have a vintage horn with a large bore, how will a contemporary barrel work with this instrument?
Thanks for your responses, I tried to find the info through search, but was unsuccessful.

The original barrel on my CT is 66.56 mm (2.620") long. Yes, you measure it with the rings included. If your barrel is he same length as mine then the problem is definitely your mouthpiece. I haven't measured a resent Selmer C* but I think, it's not a big bore mouthpiece. I would look for a Selmer Oval (on the table) HS* or HS** mouthpiece. The original series vintage Woodwind CO. 'Steel Ebonite' mouthpieces are also good match with CT

I just realized we already had similar discussion and you said that your Woodwind C7 actually plays in tune but you like the sound of your Selmer C* better.
I would suggest to send your Woodwind C7 mpc. to a mouthpiece maker for refacing job. Selmer C* mouthpiece is not a good match with Selmer CT

I owned a Selmer CT many years ago and used the Selmer HS** without
pitch problems. Vytas gave you some valuable info. Good luck.

Vytas is correct.
quick questions...is the barrel original to the instrument? Is there any damage to the interior? Also, any gaps between the mouthpiece or upper joint and the barrel? (The latter us correctable with tuning rings...shims). Does the mouthpiece fit flush to the top of the barrel?

Alseg,
The barrel is the original and I have not detected any interior damage. There are no gaps and the mouthpiece fits flush. However, the new mouthpiece fits extremely tight and it took a lot of adjustment to fit properly. I still use corkgrease on the new mpc., at least every other day.
I will try the old one again to see how that fits.
Thanks for your response.
