Has anyone ever heard of Titan? Is this a good clarinet for someone on a budget and just starting out or should I just continue to rent one for a little while longer and save up and get a more expensive one?

I think that John Moses, a NYC professional who frequently posts on this board, summed up the new imported Far East clarinets best, when he wrote:
"...These clarinets from China and elsewhere, do play, and some are actually good, not great, but OK....
When the clarinets do have problems, I have suggested they dispose of them immediately, buy another one, or move up to a fine professional instrument like a Buffet, Selmer, Leblanc, etc.
I believe we are seeing the "disposable clarinet," like the "disposable camera," and all the unfixable disposable new toys we all use. We have something here that is "useful" for a while, then it is meant to be thrown away! It seems a shameful waste, but our economy is supporting (and encouraging) such waste.
I am not suggesting we buy, or encourage others to buy these inferior products, but if they must, then throw them away when they break, and move on..."
As I have written previously; If the parents have already bought the instrument and returning it is not an option, they should realize that most of these instruments WILL play adequately, but only for a short period of time.
However, when they eventually develop problems (as most do) they should be thought of as disposable. Usually not worth the time or money to fix.
Hopefully, these $100 instruments will foster a new discovery of music for children, before the frustration of their flimsy quality sets in...GBK

Doesn't Yamaha have a mfg. facility in good-old G R, MI [Igrew up in Lansing !]? . I'm sure GBK and perhaps others know. A "show room", if there is one, should be very informative. Don
