A hobby I have outside of playing music is fiddling around with graphic design software. And because of this, I've become the resident graphic designer for the Moreno Valley Community Bands (which I play in). Recently, I was asked to make an artwork poster for the upcoming 06-07 season. So, I've got a concept, but I need large photos of various band instruments to get it done. Since my photography skills are a bit lacking, I figured I'd start by looking for photos.
If anyone here has access to public domain, high-quality photos of instruments, please contact me with how I would go about obtaining them. Or, if you yourself have photos of instruments you'd be willing to share, that would be great too. MVCB is a non-profit organization, and the posters are not going to be sold, so no one will be making a profit from using your photos.
Specifically, I am looking for a tuba, trombone (with or without the extra tubing), french horn, trumpet, saxophone (alto or tenor), soprano clarinet (Bb or A), flute, and concert snare (on a stand). Ideally, these would be straight shots on an even background. Thanks a bunch.

google: select "Images" from the choices above the selection box and type in the name of the horn. I did that for clarinet and got 124,000 hits.

Bob,
I'm sure there may be some copyright issues that preclude just using any image that is on the web. I could be wrong but...

$1500 each pic!!!!!!! Hmmm....
I know a local music shop is using an image of a Howarth clarinet on their flyers without permission. I pointed it out to them as well.
And they don't even stock Howarth clarinets!
Maybe they're doing this as a retalliation for me jumping ship to work for Howarth.

No.
that web page has a copyright restriction at the bottom.
you could email mr spriggs for permission
but no, without premission, you can not simply lift the photo.

I suggest you take a look at http://creativecommons.org/image/
Although copyright still applies in many cases, it seems to me that a creative commons license allows liberal and perfectly legal use of images for the kind of project you have in mind.

I work at a photography studio and have been meaning to take out a Haselblad and take some artistic shots of my Selmer 10G. I plan on doing it in the next month - And I plan on having at least a couple that I will post for all those who are looking for some cool clarinet backgrounds, etc for themselves. My good deed. I'll post sometime about it...

Everyone,
Thanks so far for the responses. As for the Google image search and their ilk, yes you can find thousands of pictures. However, to make the poster look good printed at the size it needs to be, it needs a very high resolution. We're talking at least 2400 pixels high. And that's a little instrument... Plus, as has been mentioned before, there are copyright issues with many of those. But, I'll keep an eye out.
The clarinet at pspriggs.com might work pretty well. I'll get in contact with Peter and ask him about it. Thanks for the heads up there.

Are there any phoographers in the band? Can they take the pictures for you? Then there are no copyright issues and you can get exactly the picture you want (assuming other members of the band are prepared to pose their instruments for you...)
