Does anyone out there use Glotin reeds, and if so how to they compare with Van Dorens etc?

I have in the past used Glotin reeds. I used them because my set-up sounded quite different from the person to whom I was playing 2nd clarinet.

For me, the VanDoren (V12's) are far more "flexible" in tone than are the Glotins. On the Glotins I got a tone that was very similar to that of a crystal mouthpiece; dark and heave--as though my tone weighed 700 pounds! On the V12's I get a much more lively tone, able to blend with a lot more players with different set-ups. I am now running into a new set of problems with the V12's, but will not (most likely) switch to Glotins; I'm thinking more toward Oliveris.

Happy hunting,
Frank

Could I ask further, has anyone tried the Glotin Groove reeds, which are designed for jazz players?

I use Glotin and prefer it over Vandoren V12's. The trick is finding the 'sweet spot' by moving it around on the mouthpiece. It's been my experience in rehearsals I have it dead center, for concerts its slightly to the right and over the tip of the mthpc. Vandoren's are usually ready out of the box while Glotin's need to be worked in and on. On a Bay mouthpiece, Rovner Lite Ligature and R13's things are working fine with Glotin for me. Try 'em
