to watch a concert?
By coincidence I checked a website I rarely check, and found that my favorite woodwind players, who play with their own groups and their own concerts almost always, have a duo concert together! It is in Holland, in a city called Groningen (excuse me if wrong spelling).
I know these players will never come to my country, and I'm not sure if they will ever perform together again (although it is possible). Although seeing each of them apart is also great (haven't had the chance for that either), I doubt they will perform close to each by coincidence around the same date. This concert is about a week from now, and the question is whether I want to spend the expensive price it will cost me to fly there, just to watch this concert.
I will try find other things or more concerts that might happen there around the same time, although I think it is a small city and I would have to go to the main cities for anything else.

Holland is a great place for tourists and it's a relatively small country so that it's possible to see a great deal without much travel time. Most people speak English.
I think you will find information at www.holland.com that will help to plan a trip. I visited Holland this year in April/May. Email me if you have questions that I may be able to answer.

Personally i don't think it's worth it. Other than listening to great music, what do you think you will gain in the long run? I think putting the money to another use would be a better idea. You will have many other chances to see great musicians play.
but if your filthy rich i say go for it

For what it would cost to fly, you could probably get these guys to do a private concert for you and your friends!
On the other hand, are you in need of a vacation?

Actually it is irelevent now because I just read that the person who I wanted to see more of the two canceled. I decided to delay it and make the trip another time. I already looked and found he has more concerts with even more players I like later this year and next year.
Hans - I was twice in Holland and it is maybe my favorite place (I haven't been to that many places though). It is one of the easiest places to get around from anywhere I've been to. The thing is, I don't really care where it is but more that I see these specific players. Unfortunatly I know they will probably never come to my country :(
Kev - I am not flithy rich, but I have a method that helps me be able to buy important things like this. My method is, not buying a lot of crap I don't need. It works.
Also it is not like flying to see a great performance of the Mozart concerto (no disrespect for that!). It is just that the music of these people is very unique to them, and impossible to hear even anything like it anywhere else (it is mostly improvised music).

Mark - please put this thread in the "keepers" section just on the strength of that statement.
Then we can all refer to it whenever someone asks "Would I play better if I bought an XXXXX?"

During my time stationed in Europe, I spent a good amount of money traveling around by train and plane to hear performances and to enjoy the architecture and history. Sometimes it was to hear something in particular so I understand your interest in this. Of course, it was less expensive to get anywhere in Europe from Germany than from Israel to Holland, but we have to play the cards we're dealt. Go for it, you won't regret it. I wish I had spent sometime in Holland while I was over there, but there's only so much time and so much money, and that's life. I'll get there someday.

It's indeed a great country... but I have seen it to many times.... about every morning the last 26 years of my life.. ;o)

I wasn't talking only about clarinet equipment at all, but I guess you can apply that philosophy to anything. It more of a life philosophy, culture and education. If I won the lottory today, I would still not buy things I don't need.

The players that were supposed to play are Louis Scalvis and Evan Parker, my two favorite living musicians. Unfortunately Sclavis canceled and it will be a solo concert of Evan Parker.

I agree with ur spending philosopy. I too use the same thing, and most definately apply it to clarinet products.
Consequently, i had enough many chillen to buy a new buffet 1193 low c thing.
I wouldn't mind traveling to holland for any excuse, there are many fun things to do there.
