Anyone know anything about a Paris made clarinet named LeCouture? Looks fairly old and of good quality.

Since La Couture and several other centers in France are, according to Rendall, principal, historical "markets" for clarinets etc, I would conclude its use is as a "stencil", a good name by an ?unknown? maker. Since we have a number of European reader-posters, please help us out. Don

La Couture is a small town outside Paris. It was the birthplace of the French woodwind industry and was the centre of clarinet manufacture for many years. All the major French makers had workshops or factories there and some still do. I think Leblanc are still based there. There is a museum of woodwind instruments.
Don is probably right about the name "Couture" being used on clarinets by unknown makers. It has even been used on instruments which are stamped "Made in England"!

Yes, it's R.M.R. Malerne "Standard" from the 40's
BTW "pillars with very wide flanged bases" on clarinets is the SML keywork trademark.
