I don't mean to brag, but for my 50th. birthday, my lovely wife took me to Europe for a clarinet tour. We first went to Gstaad to see Sabine Meyer play three concerts. On the night of my birthday she played Mozart 622. The performance was beautiful, even though she was dieing from the 90 plus degrees in the church. She looked terrified at the start but soon got in to the groove and I was moved to tears. After the concert we were able to meet her and Reiner. It turns out that she is as wonderful and kind as she is beautiful and talented. She was delighted that it was my birthday and that we had come from Alaska to see her. She gave me a big hug and presented me with the flowers she had been given during her ovation. I am not sure how to post the pictures, but she happily agreed to let my wife snap a shot of the two of us. She played the Mozart quintet the next night. I am not sure which performance was more beautiful - she was clearly more relaxed and comfortable playing with the quartet. We met again after the concert- I can't say what a joy it was for me, (one of her biggest fans) to find out that she was sweet and down to earth, when she very well could have been a real diva.
The other concerts we saw were the Czech clarinet quartet and two phenomenal performances in Northern Germany by Giora Fiedman. He has preformed some 200 concerts for peace and reconciliation throughout Germany. One night he played with his trio, the next night a duet with organ. They played Bach and Jazz and Jewish prayers and Klezmer. A crazy and moving mix of music across borders - for those that don't think it is a crime to bend a note or use vibrato on the clarinet. We also got to meet him both nights and he gave me a stack of free CD's.
What a treat it all was, I love my wife. So great to know that two of my clarinet idols are also fine people.

Congratulations!
For both your birthday and your meeting S.M.
She must have been moved too. Not many people can make such a traveling decision.
