My daughter's b&h edgware has a broken key. It is potmetal so the repair tech will have to make a new one. For the small fortune it is going to cost to do this, I thought I might find a parts clarinet on ebay and have the key swapped out. Because I don't play the clarinet, I don't know if this is a viable option. Also, does the edgware go by any other name? Do I have to be careful to stay within the same model year or will any edgware clarinet do? In cars, from one year to the next the taillights, for example, may be very different. I don't want to get a parts clarinet only to find the key I want to swap out is completely different!
Thanks for any help.

As far as I'm aware B&H Edgwares never had mazak keys - only the B&H '77' and early wooden Regent had mazak keys. Maybe the key was a replacement and a mazak key was fitted instead.
You will have to stay within the serial number to be sure of swapping keys as B&H changed their design in the late '50s or early '60s - but if the serial number is after around 220000 then you should have no problems swapping keys with a donor clarinet of a higher number (from 220000 onwards).

I have a few 'donor' Edgwares (and the generally similar Series 2-20 model) in my parts box so perhaps I can provide you a replacement key (gratis) if you can send me the broken one. Please contact me off-line.
