Just out of curiosity, what years were instruments marked LP? I know it probably varies with each company, but I just want a general idea.

Generally, A=435. Sometimes lower. You're right about there being no exact standard.

As I understand it, Willie, the transision from HP to LP would vary by different instrument makers but generally from around 1880 to 1920, more or less, because some were making both during that time.

I believe some of our "good books", Brymer, Rendall, Grove's Dict. etc discuss the transition from HP to LP to A 440 [+?] [for NOW!!]. The time-period [I agree with 1880-1920] I'm sure depended upon the principal orchs and bands in the various "western music" countries. Confusing? yes!

Thanks for the info. I got into a pretty good discussion with a customer in H&H last week who was looking for old HP instruments to take back to Brazil. He stated they still use this standard down there in some bands.
