 Selmer GoldenTone 3 Mouthpiece

I have been using these for the better part of a year now (I have actually been playing, or attempting to play, for a year).

I know that there are other mouthpieces out there. I have read many interesting threads on this forum with regards to Van Doren B45's etc.

Where, in the greater scheme of things, does the Goldentone 3 fall? Is it at the bottom of the heap, middle, where?

I am thinking of upgrading mouthpieces at some point, and am curious.

The only others that I have tried are the Selmer **which came with my Selmer Bundy, and the Simba mouthpiece which came with, of all things, the Simba.

Thank you all in advance.

Ah Clem

Selmer Goldentone 3 mouthpieces are not considered to be one of the world's finest, but many people (mostly young students) have been using them for many years. They are not pure junk either.

Mouthpiece selection is a highly personal matter.

The only way to find out what works for you is to try them. Van Doren makes an intermediate priced range of mouthpieces in many types, so chances are one of them may work for you.

I prefer the "M" series but you may find that something else works for you.

Agreed, J O J, you MIGHT find a good [or poor] one, almost certainly used [not sure that they are still marketed].. If you look through your tech's old mps, older Woodwinds and Selmers were among the best, then. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I suggest either of two far superior plastic mouthpieces replacing the Selmer Golden tone............Hite Premier, Fobes Debut. Check with your local music outlet or order on line.

I've got a bag full of Selmer Goldentone mouthpieces I don't want, free to anyone who wants them. They often show up in old clarinet cases, and in my opinion they're not worth the effort to reface. Most of them are pretty grungy, though.

Life is too short to waste on a mediocre mouthpiece. Martind above gives a good piece of advice.

Thank you to those who were kind enough to respond.

I apologize for being late in doing so. I have been out of town.

Thank you all again.
