Hi, I have before me, in addition to the metal Elkhart, a Penzel Mueller Pedler B artist, with eagle, made in Long Island City, NY. It is in great shape, actually, and the pads along with the corks were all recently replaced or serviced. The springs and keys are in fine working order, etc. I'm going to rummage around the store to see if I can find the mouthpiece: it may be in the owner's drawer of misc. mouthpieces.
But, anyway, are there no serial number date lists anywhere for these? I checked the archives here and have looked many places, although not the library yet. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, c

As a long time P-M owner, I have never heard of association with Pedler. PM on L I, NY made good cls in the early 1900s, I have one, and a Good Friend loves his Artist Model. I do not know of ser # lists however, but if you post yours, perhaps some PM owner can give you some idea of age. Don

Thanks so much for responding - of course, you are right! I assumed that the case, which is marked Pedler, was the original this clarinet came in. Nowhere on the clarinet, itself, does it say Pedler, only Penzel Mueller Artist with the eagle image and a B. It has the Boehm fingering and the serial number is 3634. It seems to me to be quite old. I will be photographing it tomorrow or wednesday so I will post the photos but I am sure you are right, I am just at the very beginning of self-schooling with regard to these instruments. In addition to finding a matching mouthpiece, I will look to see if someone at the shop I am cataloging these old instruments in, mixed up cases. I look forward to hearing from anyone who owns one of these with regard to dating through the serial number. Thanks again, carol

I neglected to suggest that you make a SEARCH [above] of our archives where you may find ser # and mfg. dating given for age approximation. I'll ask my friend what his # is, I believe his Artist dates from late 1940's. Yes, cases and mps are frequently different from the clarinet itself. Don
