 Stamitz tempo markings
Author: Nick Conner

Does anybody know a standard tempo for the third movement? My copy doesn't have a marking, all it says is Rondo. I'm playing a part of it for all-state orchestra auditions. I would like to know how fast it goes, because I've never heard it and I would like the judges to at least think I know what I'm doing.

I just finished it, and performed well acctaully the entire concerto 3 last weekend. I think I thook the Rondo about 125 or there abouts. Not too fast but a tempo that i could play the runs at evenly. goo luck it was a fun piece!

Nick:

Which Stamitz concerto? There's at least four of them.

The 'best' tempo is one that makes the most musical sense, from yours and the listener's point of view.
