 Weber

I just have to say that I absolutely LOVE Weber's Concertino! There is so much more to it than what's on the page. My band director, who is the greatest musician I have ever or will ever know, just retired last year. He really got me involved in music during my sophomore year of high school- I tried for all-state and disappointedly didn't make it- he stood with me through all of the practicing, my first time on stage- everything. Now we have a new director which isn't as advanced as him in playing ability and so from the start I realized I would be on my own. Yet I kept it in my heart when my old director said he would always be with me spiritually at my side when I would play. This past year I took the liberty of finding my own music, finding my own studing materials and recordings, and practicing on my own without assistance from the person I thought I would never be able to get along without. I practiced with my new director maybe once on the techincal aspects of the music and then maybe a couple with my new director accompanying on the piano. Now I am proud to say I made it to All-State Symphonic Band and got a superior at contest. My passion goes into Concertino-it symbols me as an indiviual and I want to honor Weber for composing it. I thought people here would understand my love more than others. *Nicole-Thanx for listening!

The Concertino is a great piece. I've never performed it, but have worked on it a few times. I'd also suggest looking at some Brahms. Some people may say it's boring, I have at times, but there is so much feeling and emotion that can be put into his works.

Many of us hold on to some great experiences with former directors. I definately have. I'd suggest not passing judgement on your new director so quickly. I did that when my school got a new band director my senior year and regret not giving him enough of a chance. Everyone has different ways of teaching and different strengths and weaknesses.
