I'm new on this forum and I should at first apologize for my english.
I'm planning a recital for clarinet and piano.
Clarinet solos, piano solos and some duo-piece.
I was asked to play Steve Reich's "New York Counterpoint" and I'm still preparing my personal tape for playback... this is the only one required piece.
The problem is that I've to prepare a full concert program and I don't know what kind of music I could play after New York Counterpoint.
Could you help me, please?

If you haven't already, get a copy of Roger Heaton's New York Couterpoint CD, (CC0009 on Clarinet Classics).
Not only is it a great great CD to have, but you can see how he has tackled the problem of programming aroung NY Counterpoint.
If you're recording a backing for this, which I have done and wish you luck, then you could take the multi-tracking one step further and consider Gavin Bryars' 3 Elegies for 9 clarinets, which can be found on the CD mentioned earlier.

The piece was originally written for clarinet and tape, so if you're going to use a pre-recorded background, you might want to look into getting the tape.

As far as I know...the intention is for the player to create their own tape/cd/delete as appropriate for the work, there is no definitive 'tape' set down by the composer.
Using somebody elses 'tape' would lose some of the magic of the piece as far as I'm concerned, the blend of the instruments is ultra important.

I thought I read in the liner notes of the cd "Clarinet" by Karin Dornbusch that the pieces was originally written for Clarinet and tape and then rearranged for 11 Clarinets. I could be mistaken, though.

Max, NY Counterpoint is for 11 clarinets whether you're using tape or not.
10 parts are to be pre-recorded, and then the last is to be played live. I have heard a live version for 11, but achieving the precision needed is a tall order.
